Elster Kent Metering (Pty) Ltd imports, assembles and distributes electricity meters, water meters, meter boxes, pre-paid water meters and turnkey solutions for Automatic Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployments across the continent. The company employs 132 people at its head office and factory in Industria, Johannesburg and has branches in Bloemfontein, Cape Town and Durban.  The company also has a representative based in Port Elizabeth.

“With the growing importance of water conservation in Australia, Elster’s portfolio of products can support water utilities such as Sydney Water with access to precise measurement data. This information allows them to accurately bill customers for water usage, and to identify leaks within their distribution system, improving efficiency and helping to reduce water losses,” commented Rob Campbell, managing director of Elster’s water metering business in Australia.

Sydney Water in Australia selected Elster as one of its suppliers to deliver V100 volumetric water meters and Helix water meters over the next three years, commencing on July 1, 2012.

As the national water agency, PUB is responsible for the collection, production, distribution and reclamation of water in Singapore. PUB selected Elster to supply up to 240,000 V100 volumetric water meters over the next two years. Available in sizes from 15mm to 40mm, V100 volumetric meters perform in accordance with international ISO 4064 standards. The product offers high accuracy, long-life, low maintenance and tamper-proof operation.

Elster's V100 volumetric water meters equipped with Elster's wireless AMR system technology, will support WBWC's project to manage water resources more efficiently, provide greater control over water leakage and wastage, and provide accurate usage figures.

"WBWC will have access to accurate usage data that can be analysed to help forecast and manage production capacity. Elster's Smart Metering solution for water helps WBWC to identify leaks within their distribution system, improves efficiency and helps to reduce water losses. It also provides significant increases in operational safety by eliminating the need to manually read hard-to-access meters," commented Rob Campbell, managing director of Elster's water metering business in Australia.

EMASESA selected Elster's Y290 electronic hybrid water meters in 2005 and again, in 2012 based on the successful deployment over the last 6 years. The Y290 hybrid electronic water meter provides statistical information on consumption behavior, customer profiles and flows. The meter is approved by the European Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) 2004/22/EC, offers a dynamic flow range up to R250 and is self-powered by an internal battery.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), based in Washington D.C.,  is implementing Elster American Meter gas meters and Elster AMCO Water meters to improve operational efficiencies and to cost-effectively manage energy resources across 14 U.S. military bases. An approved vendor to the U.S. military, Elster’s gas and water meters were chosen for their superior quality, accuracy and reliability.

The V210 volumetric polymer meter offers long-life and high accuracy over a wide operating range. With its polymer body, the V210 meter has approximately one-third the carbon footprint of its brass body counterparts. The product forms an integral part of Elster's advanced metering system and has been approved to the latest European Directive (2004/22/EC) and associated European and international standards.

Elster customized a fixed radio network system for one of France's largest water utilities.

Polymer C700 meters are meeting the environmental standards for the no-lead initiatives of major metropolitan areas.

The utility is upgrading existing Elster brass based meters with the V110 new co-polymer resin meters, which provide optimal accuracy and performance for smart water metering, and are pre-equipped to support the AMR technology upgrade.

With the installation of 100,000 Elster AMCO Water C700 meters and retrofit kits for the existing Elster meters in its service area, a midwest utility is expanding its existing relationship with Elster. Serving more than 1.5 million people throughout the city and 72 neighboring suburbs, the water department selected the C700 meters for their unparalleled performance, accuracy and ability to seamlessly integrate with the utility’s planned AMI installation.

The Elster AMCO C700 is an oscillating piston type water meter with an advanced positive displacement design. The meters will be implemented into the most densely populated city in the northeast’s infrastructure, which supports the efficient and safe delivery of approximately one billion gallons of water daily.

To improve the repair and adjustment process of their water distribution system, CCU, a Florida County utility, began testing the Elster Perfection Hydrosert Fittings. When crimping an older polyethylene (PE) tubing service line, many utilities face the need to repair the same area again, at a later date. "We are very pleased with the performance of Elster Perfection’s Hydrosert Fittings and have recommended their use for many applications, including those at neighboring utility locations,” said Stephen Kipfinger, Superintendent of Water Distribution.

Managing the water supply and wastewater for about two million people in Hamburg - Germany's second largest city and surrounding areas - Hamburger Wasserwerke selects Elster M100 multi-jet water meter in brass housing. "The M100 meets our specifications in this Europe-wide tender both for metrology and for lead-free housing, which our corporation has chosen as a standard for the entire city," said Bernd Redmann, director, supply chain management for Hamburger Wasserwerke.

The Q4000 electromagnetic water meter delivers 10-year battery life and simple deployment. “By eliminating the need for regular visits to replace batteries, my team can now spend more time focusing on real value-creating activities such as reducing leakage and ensuring an effective distribution of water throughout the Veolia Water region," Ian Alexander, leakage verification manager for Veolia Water.

Tasmania’s three water and sewerage corporations, Southern Water, Ben Lomond Water and Cradle Mountain Water, selected Elster's innovative V100 volumetric water meter for their extended metering program to ensure every unmetered property receives a water meter with AMR technology.
