Systems Testing and Quality Engineer

This position will transition by mid 2009 from our headquarters in Ocala, FL to our Engineering Center in Raleigh, NC.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary function of this position is to develop and conduct testing, receive data and analyze results of the water metering RF AMR/AMI systems and products, related equipment and component systems. The position will be responsible for helping develop and execute a detailed test plan for evaluating both individual components of the system and its sub-components, together with prototypes for lab and field-testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Develop and conduct tests of new components, assemblies and systems based on test criteria established by policies and procedures and/or written test plans; maintain accurate records of test results and reports results to appropriate Development and Testing Group.
• Conduct various performance test of the company's product in accordance with test criteria established by policies and procedures and/or written test plans and maintains accurate records of test results and reports results to the Development and Testing Group.
• Prepare prototypes of components assemblies and systems of either new or current product as directed by policies and procedures and/or written test plans or work requests. Assure that the prototypes meet the established specifications.
• Operate required machinery and equipment in a safe manner following established safety rules, maintain a neat and clean work area, follow established tool and instrument control procedures, and report any unsafe acts or conditions to immediate supervisor.
• Perform inspections and installation of parts and components on the RF network or its sub-components, maintain accurate records of the installation of these parts and the collection of test data, and perform inspections on a manner consistent with established guidelines and procedures.
• Help design and where necessary, build test fixtures to carry out various needs associated with testing the RF system or its components in a manner that will be accelerated in terms of time and that will correlate with actual field usage conditions.
• Keep immediate supervisor up to date on all on-going projects, with regards to project status, completion time projections, and any problems that may have arisen during the course of the project.
• Perform installation and repairs of test equipment and components when necessary.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Experience, knowledge of, and ability to apply, basic principles and practices related to development engineering and developing electronic/electro-mechanical test equipment to assure design parameters are properly evaluated and tested.
• Responsible for accuracy of own work, meeting schedules, and seeking assistance to resolve complex or controversial matters.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering practices and principles.
• Communicate both orally and in writing.
• Project management skills are essential.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with five to eight years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience or demonstrated accomplishments.
