Senior Engineer
Primary Responsibilities
The primary function of this position is to perform process and mechanical activities for newly developed products by introduction and supporting change activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Issue new and modified drawings.
Review if processes are affected and determine any necessary actions. Add to master drawing listing. Update manufacturing system. Distribute documents to appropriate necessary personnel.
• Provide Sign Off for CIR's
Verify measuring method and completeness of reports. Determine acceptability.
• NSF Certification
Compile and submit documentation on new products and changes to existing products. Follow up data requirements with suppliers. Oversee annual NSF Audit.
• Manufacturing Process
Complete jig and fixture design, process layout, research equipment. Apply Flow and Lean manufacturing principles. Evaluate processing problems.
• Design
Assess injection molded component design requirements, component tolerances, gearing. Evaluate component and assembly designs for ease of manufacturing.
• Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow.
Issue written and oral instructions to team members. Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness and conformance to policies and procedures. Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
• Coordinate the preparation of or develop engineering plans and specifications.
Review bids and make necessary recommendations based on lowest and best bids, competency of vendors and consultants and the selection criteria.
• Provide project management for the projects.
Oversee assigned projects to ensure contractor compliance with time and budget parameters for the project.
Raise Cap Ex's. Generate purchase orders, serve as liaison with supplier and order necessary equipment/supplies.
• Travel to support Elster Group companies and third party suppliers as required.
• Knowledge of measurement methods required.
• Detailed understanding of CAD drawings required.
• Injection Molding knowledge is a benefit.
• Understand and be able to work with the following materials: Thermoplastics, Brass and Bronzes, and Steels.
• Self-motivated and exhibit ownership skills for work produced.
• Read, write, and speak English.
• Receive and carry out written and verbal instructions.
• Operate specialized equipment as necessary to produce or process product.
• Work as part of a team.
• Perform complex computer functions.
• Abide by company policies and procedures including those for business conduct, attendance, safety, and quality.
• Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S practices and follow ISO standards.
• Maintain a professional demeanor.
• Communicate in a tactful and courteous way.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree or higher in mechanical or process/industrial engineering. Must be able to demonstrate successful completion of projects and leadership abilities. Self motivated and able to receive work direction, the candidate will be working in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The employee will be required to stand, sit, walk, crawl, stoop, bend, and kneel on a daily basis. Will frequently be required to sit and talk, or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to use hands and arms to reach for items and may be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving and mechanical parts and compressed air in the manufacturing environment, as well as ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment. The noise level of this environment will range from moderate to loud.
