Press Release

Raleigh, North Carolina, January 18, 2008 Sensorlink Partners with Elster in Advanced Grid Infrastructure Initiative

Elster Electricity, part of Elster Group, a world leader in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and integrated metering and utilization solutions to the gas, electricity and water industries, today announces that Sensorlink has joined the Elster-led Advanced Grid Infrastructure (AGI) Initiative.

The AGI initiative is a collaborative effort between utilities, Elster and key technology partners to realize innovative AMI-based solutions for the grid of the future.  AGI will provide the utility industry with a powerful set of hardware, software and communications solutions needed in the critical area of network automation.  This initiative will allow Elster, in collaboration with its partners, to offer standards-based solutions that enable utilities to improve the operation of the electrical network by leveraging their advanced metering infrastructure investment.  Elster, a member of EPRI’s IntelliGrid program, is committed to the vision of a smarter power grid.

Sensorlink has developed new and innovative low voltage sensor technologies for electric utilities that, when integrated with an AMI system such as Elster’s EnergyAxis, will facilitate gathering of valuable information throughout the distribution network allowing Utilities to realize the vision of an efficient and smart power grid.  Sensorlink sensors are designed to be easily retrofitted to the distribution lines to enable information gathering.

David G. Hart, Elster Electricity senior vice president of products and quality said, “We are excited to have Sensorlink join the AGI initiative.  Our experience with the proven EnergyAxis system coupled with Sensorlink’s new products will allow the realization of information gathering from remote customer locations to drive new applications in the grid of the future.”

“Our low voltage sensor technology allows the utility to easily install data nodes at the customer premise,” said Gary Hielkema, Sensorlink’s president. “This project provides new opportunities for utilities to economically gather information from customer locations to drive new applications.”

Elster’s proven EnergyAxis System delivers advanced AMI solutions for the electricity, gas and water industries. Elster has the largest two-way mesh radio frequency AMI deployment in the world that is delivering complex billing information, performing disconnects and reconnects on a daily basis. Elster has already shipped more than 1.3 million two-way EnergyAxis smart meters.
