Luton, 16 February 2007 - Elster Metering Limited, part of Elster Group the world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of metering and utilisation solutions to the gas, electricity and water industries, has today announced it will launch its Q050 ‘Gulf meter’ at the WETEX exhibition in Dubai. Elster Metering Limited is the producer of the world renowned Kent water meter.
The Q050 builds on Elster’s 50 years experience of supplying water meters to the GCC Countries and encompasses the very latest measuring technology packaged in a manner designed specifically for the tough operating conditions prevalent in the region.
The core technology is built around a well proven measuring principal which has been enhanced to provide unique flow conditioning resulting in ‘Best-in- Class’ performance combined with long operating life. The Q050 features no moving parts making it virtually impervious to blockage and at the same time offering extremely low headloss. The electronics are capable of differentiating between air and water ensuring the meter only measures water consumed.
Initially available in 15mm version, the Q050 achieves a Class C and R49 Q3/Q1 = 200 performance with a starting flow of less than 10 l/hr. The body is manufactured from advanced materials which are tough, highly resistant to chlorine and UV, and provide excellent stability over a wide temperature range. Additionally, the Q050 has the unique provision for measuring both forward and reverse flows. This innovative capability can be utilised for both tamper detection and back flow prevention.

The Q050 ‘Gulf meter’ offers a 12 year battery life and the option of electronic output for connection to automated reading systems. When combined with Elster’s EMERIS automated reading range, the Q050 can detect leaks on the property, and this, along with any tampering or sudden change in performance can be transmitted directly to the Utility.
