FieldMetrics Joins Elster’s Advanced Grid Infrastructure Initiative
Raleigh, North Carolina
Elster Electricity, part of Elster Group, a world leader in Advanced Metering Infrastructure
(AMI) and integrated metering and utilization solutions to the gas, electricity and
water industries, today announces that FieldMetrics has joined the Elster-led Advanced
Grid Infrastructure (AGI) Initiative.
The AGI Initiative is a collaborative
effort between utilities, Elster and key technology partners to realize innovative
AMI-based solutions for the grid of the future. AGI will provide the utility
industry with a powerful set of hardware, software and communications solutions needed
in the critical area of network automation. This initiative will allow Elster,
in collaboration with its partners, to offer standards-based solutions that enable
utilities to improve the operation of the electrical network by leveraging their advanced
metering infrastructure investment. Elster, a member of EPRI’s Intelligrid
program, is committed to the vision of a smarter power grid.
FieldMetrics’
contribution to AGI is new medium voltage sensor technologies for electric utilities
to facilitate gathering of information at key points on the medium voltage grid.
FieldMetrics sensors are designed to be easily retrofitted on the power line to enable
information gathering. Fieldmetrics is working with Elster to further
develop innovative products which leverage AMI to realize the vision of an efficient
smart power grid.
David G. Hart, Elster Electricity senior vice president
of products and quality, said, “We are excited to have FieldMetrics join the AGI Initiative.
FieldMetrics’ new solutions in medium voltage sensors combined with our proven EnergyAxis
System allow us to provide new products and solutions to meet customers’ needs.
Elster is committed to partnering with others to provide innovative solutions like
this to realize the smart grid of the future.”
“Our new technologies allow
the utility to easily retrofit sensors on the medium voltage network where needed,”
said Pam Hamilton, FieldMetrics president. “This project opens new doors for utilities
to gather information from the medium voltage grid.”
Elster’s proven EnergyAxis
System delivers advanced AMI solutions for the electricity, gas and water industries.
Elster has the largest two-way mesh radio frequency AMI deployment in the world that
is delivering complex billing information, performing disconnects and reconnects on
a daily basis. Elster has already shipped more than 1.3 million two-way EnergyAxis
smart meters.
