Elster Metering Recycles Five London Buses for Anglian Water

Elster Metering, part of the Elster Group, the world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of highly accurate, high quality, integrated metering and utilisation solutions, has launched a project to recycle water meters for one of its largest UK customers. The project is part of an exchange programme to replace meters in domestic properties served by Anglian Water.

During 2006, Elster Metering's second largest customer in the UK, Anglian Water, started a large scale meter exchange program for domestic properties.
As part of this project, Elster offered to recycle Anglian Water's old brass bodied meters and reimburse them for the scrap value, thus enabling Anglian
Water to offset some of their purchasing costs for new water meters.

To facilitate this, Elster Metering partnered with a local recycling company who provided a large container capable of holding several tonnes of scrap metal.

This container was located at Anglian Water's main stores in Peterborough where all the old meters were returned. Once the container was full it was collected and weighed. The resulting scrap metal value was then paid to Elster Metering, who reimbursed Anglian Water an agreed amount per meter.

"Since the start of this project, five full containers of scrap meters have been collected, equivalent in weight to five London buses", said Perry Shead, Marketing Manager at Elster Metering. "Following the success of this project, Thames Water and South East Water have also adopted the service, now enabling us to offer water meter recycling to more UK utilities."
