Health, Safety and Environmental
Elster is committed to providing a safe working environment for its employees and encourages their participation in the continuous improvement and the development of good health, safety and environmental practices. Training is provided to employees and reinforced via refresher courses where necessary.

All Elster companies have health and safety programmes which follow Group recommendations. They are required to report their health and safety performance to the Group at least annually. The majority of our plants have established health and safety committees which are an important link between managers and workers to ensure suitable safeguards are in place. Our plants have very active health and safety programmes, including detailed compliance audits.

Specific health and safety achievements in the last three years include:

  • Our operations at Elster Electricity in the US have gone over 400 days without a lost time accident.
  • Elster’s plant at Luton in the UK has reduced its reportable accident rate over the last 3 years by over 80%. This has been achieved by regular site and process inspection and near miss reporting, followed by improvements in processes resulting in not only Health and Safety improvements, but also process/product benefits.
  • In Germany our plants at Mainz and Osnabruck fully comply with all current local Health and Safety requirements and report no incidents with a ten year trend of downwards by 73% while units produced increased by 51%.

Elster Group is committed to protecting and improving the environment by the responsible use of energy and by recycling and reusing materials wherever possible. All Elster facilities put the environment high up their agenda. Since Elster’s business is all about measuring scarce energy and water resources the Group feels strongly that what it does as a business overall plays a major role in protecting the environment.
